Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect during the 15-minute consult?

This is a time for me to hear a little about what is prompting you to seek therapy, for you to ask any questions you have about what working with me might be like, and for us to ultimately determine whether we’d like to move forward with working together. If we aren’t a good fit, I will try my best to provide information and referrals to help you find the support that will best meet your needs.

How often do people come to therapy?

This varies person to person! That said, given the way that I practice, I tend to work best with people who are interested in weekly or twice-weekly therapy. I do occasionally work with folks who are interested in bi-weekly therapy, though I have a strong preference for seeing new clients weekly during the beginning stages of our work together.

What will my first session be like?

We’ll spend your first session(s) getting to know each other. I’ll ask lots of questions, but primarily, I’ll want to get a sense of a few things: What is bringing you to therapy at this time? What would you like me to know about you and your life, past and present? What are your goals for therapy?

You’re invited to share what you’re comfortable with. If you’re doing your best to bring as much of your authentic self to the space as you are able, there is no way to do therapy “wrong.”

I’ll also share lots about what to expect in our work together, make room for you to ask questions about the process and of me, and we’ll take it from there.

Do you have plans to begin meeting with people in person?

I do not have plans to transition back to in-person therapy at this time. I have found that many clients value the convenience of telehealth, and this virtual option allows for greater access for those who live in areas where finding an appropriate therapist might be difficult. I encourage clients to request times for therapy that allow for privacy during the appointment, and some spaciousness on either side of the appointment to ground oneself and decompress.

Do you take insurance?

I do not take insurance. I am, however, an approved out-of-network provider. For those with out-of-network benefits, I am happy to provide the information needed to be reimbursed for a percentage of my fee by your insurance company. This percentage varies depending on your specific insurance plan, which you’ll need to contact your insurance provider to confirm.
